1000 Percent

After the long season, I took a little break from posting blogs and spent time enjoying our first grand-baby, beautiful little Sunny Lux. Congrats to my son Gunter and his lovely wife Summer. An incredible 2025 didn’t stop there as my daughters, Kylie and Paige, both got married. Lord help my bank account. lol

I have been on the road with my players and staff recruiting and working camps in Alaska and Colorado as well as hosting our own camps at OKWU. Always sharing the gospel through a round ball.

It never ceases to amaze me how awesome our God is. His blessings are new and greater every morning. Give your life 1000 percent over to Him. Doing so gives Him the opportunity to pour out His unending love and favor on your life today. 

Since 1994 when I became a head high school coach at Vinita High School. I have now coached over 1000 games, not counting the summer leagues or all the games coaching my own children, the number of games is 1021 to be exact. 

I have so much to be thankful for! All the Glory goes to God for answering my prayers. I specifically remember one of those prayers. I was a young kid about 16 years old working construction with my dad sitting on the corner block of main street in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. I was eating a sandwich during lunch break. I was working for my dad who was the foreman on a mason crew building the new Phillips Petroleum Headquarters. The year was 1987. 

I prayed to Father God that day asking Him if He would help me become a basketball coach. I wanted to return the favor of all the coaches who had poured into my life up until that moment. Men like my dad, my high school coach, and the influential college coaches I had met at summer camps. They had made an inspiring impact on my life.
It was in my eyes an impossible hope and prayer, but I asked God if somehow someway He could help me overcome those odds and become a coach!

Well… God did it! God answered that Prayer! 

I turned 56 years old yesterday, July 9, 2025. Since 1994, when I became the head coach at Vinita High School, I have now coached over 1000 games, 1021 to be exact. That does not count the many summer leagues, team camps, my first couple years as a junior high and high school assistant, or all the games I enjoyed coaching my own children.

How could I have become this blessed! Only one answer. 1000 percent God! God has far surpassed the dream I had in my mind that day when saying that prayer.

Plus 2 years as ast HS boys and JH coach

1000 Percent All God!!
