Crown or Oil

We are told from the youngest of age to chase a crown. Whether that crown is in the shape of a trophy, medal, ribbon or ring, it is constantly flashed in front of us with plenty of confetti or champagne flying.

Everyone wants to be the King or Queen of a Kingdom. So what is the problem? We are being sold is a lie. One of the enemies best. The real crown is a family thing. You have to be a son or daughter of a King or Queen.

There is only way to reach the real Crown. It is the simple three letter word – OIL. Romans 8:14 makes that abundantly clear.

“Those that are led by the Spirit of God are the Children of God.” The only way to become a King is be a son of a King.

Becoming a Child of God, the one true God, involves surrendering one’s will, obeying His Word, and being sensitive to the Spirit’s promptings.

David and Saul were both anointed by Samuel with a hin (6 quarts) of oil.

In the worlds’ eye Saul had a very successful career. Undefeated his first twenty seasons as King, why was he was traded to the Washington Wizards? Just kidding, but it does explain my point.

Saul was all about the Crown. When Saul decided he could be successful on his own, God pulled His anointing (Oil) from him. Saul worried from that moment on about one thing. Don’t take my crown.

Meanwhile, when David was anointed with oil at an early age, he returned to the field with nothing but a bunch of dumb sheep to lead and protect. No crown, just a bunch of oil and a heart that craved bringing the King Glory. The Bible says the Holy Spirit and power came on David and never left. From that moment on the Holy Spirit, which oil represents in the Bible, began preparing David for Kingship.

Year’s later, after becoming arguably the most powerful King that ever lived, David made a horrible mistake with Bathsheba and Uriah. Uriah means “Flame of God”. At that moment when David faced losing the Oil of God. He doesn’t cry out, “Don’t take my crown.” Instead David cries out:

“Purify my conscience! Make this leper clean again! Wash me in your love until I am pure in heart. Satisfy me in your sweetness, and my song of joy will return. The places you have crushed within me will rejoice in your healing touch. Hide my sins from your face; erase all my guilt by your saving grace. Keep creating in me a clean heart. Fill me with pure thoughts and holy desires, ready to please you. May you never reject me! May you never take from me your sacred Spirit!”  Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭7‬-‭11‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Please Lord, don’t take my Oil!
