A Dog’s Tail

I have always been infatuated with a dogs tail. Love the way it wags when excited or when happy. It seems to represent the heartbeat or soul of the animal.

Nothing more sad To me than a beaten down dog that walks around with its tail between its legs In Fear. I see too many players and/or people like this. Too many coaches instill fear instead of confidence and joy in their players. Treating your players like dirty or stray dogs is the sign of a sorry coach. Coaches who curse and verbally or mentally abuse their players demonstrate their lack of ability to equip and empower their players.

Instilling love is instilling discipline and toughness.

The worst coach of all is the coach who is trying to breed fighting dogs for selfish gain. They usually even call their players “dawgs”. “Be a dawg boy”. I even had a player, who struggled with extreme highs and lows, yell at me during a game that he got hot hitting shots “I am a dog coach”. Sadly he struggled the next 3 playoff games.

What i have found is when a player’s identity is found in his game, he waivers like the wind and his tail is unpredictable. When a players identity is in Christ, their tail wags with Joy even when adversity shows up! James 1:2!
