What is your impossible?
How beautiful would it be if it came true?
Why do some things in life seem absolutely impossible to conquer? Many of the best athletes in the world fall short of ever winning a championship. Charles Barkley is a good example. Is Chuck as good as Robert Horry? Absolutely, but Robert won seven championships, while Chuck won none. Everyone has their own impossible, that is except Jesus!
Earlier this season our season seemed to be falling apart. Coming off a rare three game losing streak in which we lost our this far 3-Time All-American to a potential serious neck injury, I felt led to share the following verse with our team.
John 16:33
Jesus said, “In these things I have spoken to you that you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulations, but be of good cheer because I have overcome the world.
The word Cheer is the Greek word “Tharseo”, which means to show uncommon courage. It commands you to take heart, be bold, don’t give up, and Trust him! My favorite definition of “Tharseo” is that it God is commanding you to be more daring. Why? The Lord is letting you know that as you face challenging adversaries, I have already overcome your enemy!
In the middle of what seemed impossible, while looking straight into the eyes of a giant named “Fear”, I challenged my staff and players to be twice as daring as they have been to this point in the season.
After the challenge my Assistant Coach Thomas Poling walked into my office with a sealed envelope and asked me to hold it until our regular season was over. At that time, we still had 11 games left and we were a game out of 5th place in our conference.
It was definitely a daring step of faith. Why, because without Faith it is impossible to please God. Coach P took a step out of the boat and attempted to walk on water in the middle of a raging storm. He had his eyes directly focused on Jesus and obeyed!
What if we would have went 0-11? Then again, what if we did’t. What if Jesus honored asked the Father God to honor Coach P’s faith! Do you think Jesus might have said to Father God, this man reminds me of the Centurion?
After the regular season was over, I opened the sealed letter and read it to the team. Hear are words Coach P wrote:
“I Believe we will win the rest of our games led by Jaden Lietzke. We’ll win the conference with some help from some other teams upsetting teams in our way.”
How beautiful is that? Coach P’s favorite word is honestly “Beautiful”. He says it in response to everything.
Acts 2 mentions Jerusalem’s Eastern Gate, also calling it the Beautiful Gate. In Greek, the “Beautiful Gate” not only means “beautiful”, but it also means “timely”. The Greek word used is horaios (ὡραῖος), which means “in the exact right time or season.”
Was Coach P’s act of faith and the end of our season a coincidence? Could his faith have played a part in us winning 11 in a row? Was it a prophetic statement of faith that was honored by God because of Coach P’s bold and daring act of faith?
All I can say is this Chapter in our Story is titled “Beautiful”!
