Do You Want to Win More?
What does the world tell us about winning? “Do whatever it takes”, “If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying”, “Good guys finish last”, “If you aren’t first, then your last”. I could go on and on.
Let’s break it down basketball wise. What exactly has to happen for you to win more games?
What does it take to get more buckets or to get more easy buckets? Run floor harder, go to offensive boards every possession, get to the free throw line, and put extra time working on increasing your shooting percentage both from floor and free throw line. Do these things, scout your opponent, and add limiting your turnovers, and I can almost guarantee that you will increase your odds of winning.
Is that it? Well, you could add play harder, buy into team defense, and become a better leader to that list, but the truth is most good teams focus on these same areas. These areas can help you win more, but is there another area that can take you to an even higher level of success?
For some reason this verse comes to mind. Matthew 5:3 says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” This is the beginning of Jesus powerful sermon on the mount. That verse has always confused me a bit. What is Jesus talking about and how can this give us insight into winning at another level?
Jesus is sharing with us a very powerful and simple truth. Blessed are those that realize they need more of Jesus! Understanding this truth should highly motivate you to above all be the light for others, so that they may find the narrow path that leads others to the King of Kings!
