How to Kill a Giant
Yes, this story has already been written. It is possibly the most famous story in the Bible and sportscasters sure love mentioning it during March Madness. Just thought I would take a deeper dive into the question.
These days it would be with a laser guided missile. I’m sure there are five year olds who have logged enough hours on video games to have prepared them well to get the job done.
Let’s say we are talking metaphorically for a moment. What GIANT are you facing today or this week? Do you know how to defeat him? Are you in panic mode yet? Is fear in your ear?
As a kid I still remember the Giant bully who loved to make my life a nightmare. There was more than one, it seems like they run in packs and they always got a punk small mouthy guy that is the supposed brains of their operation.
We are no longer in OT times, so we are not able to simply take the GIANT out with a rock and a stone, but that doesn’t mean we can’t follow the same Biblical principles that David used to succeed.
So how did the anointed outcast Giant slaying shepherd boy get it done?
1- He understood who he was. Yes, he was an anointed King, but it was his understanding of his covenant relationship with God that gave him confidence. I love the fact that David was the first person in the Bible to recorded saying he loved God!
2- That confidence removed his fear and any doubt he had in his ability. Never fight giant trusting in your ability to succeed. Fear and doubt are two of satan’s biggest weapons. They are much more dangerous than any GIANT.
3- Faith on the other hand is a GIANT killing machine. Where your faith comes from or who your faith is in, will make all the difference. Faith is the deadliest stone in your pouch.
4- Previous kills. Killing one giant usually leads to more giants showing up. Most people believe David picked up five stones not because of lack of confidence in his ability to hit his target, but because Goliath had four brothers. David was prepared to end them all!
5- Enjoy the kill. Elijah talked a little noise to the prophets of Baal. David let the GIANT know that everyone in the land would know today that there is a GOD in Israel. The Bible says Jesus overcome the cross because of the Joy that lye before Him.
