What would you give up for a Championship?

I recently heard a song that moved me as much as any song ever has. I have listened to it over and over again for the last few days.

As we enter the final month of the season and approach our post season, I have a yearning desire deep down inside me to do all I can to help our team win another National Championship.

I believe everyone watching last season knew it took a miracle from God for us to reach the championship game. It was that same faithful God that has blessed me with that awesome experience more times than I deserve in my life.

Reaching the top of the mountain is a feeling that is hard to describe. It is a feeling that can easily consume you. It can become an addiction. Because of the fame and glory that comes with it, It can easily become your god.

Few are blessed to even play or coach college basketball, much less given the opportunity to experience being crowned a champion.

To many, the amount of work, sweat and tears poured into reaching the absolute top of a seemingly insurmountable mountain is worth more than gold.

Does it get any better than a victory parade and the reward of a gold ring you are given with your “Name” inscribed next to the words “Champion”? It is arguably the most coveted prize ever. These days people pay college coaches and athletes millions of dollars to achieve this feat.

So my question for you today is, “What would you be willing to give up if you knew you were going to achieve that lifelong goal of winning a Championship tomorrow?”

If somehow you knew, that what you have been striving for, working daily towards, and dreaming about your whole life was finally fixing to happen. If you were only one day away! What would you do?

Maybe that dream for you isn’t a championship game, maybe it writing a song that reaches the top of the charts, winning the lottery, or just experiencing the joy of receiving your first kiss.

My question for you is this?

If you were given two options when you wake up in tomorrow morning.

1- Go home to see Jesus

2- Achieve your Earthly Dream

What would you choose?

Would you ask Jesus the question, “Can we go home now?” Or would you consider staying knowing you would finally experience your earthly dream?

Luke 16 speaks of the rich man who goes to Hades and implores Abraham to send Lazarus from his bosom to warn the his family from choosing option 2. Abraham replies, “If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.”

I have won multiple championships and I am here to tell you there is only one right choice! “Father God, Can we go home now?”
