WHO YOU CHASING?
In 50 years of life I have raced or chased nearly everything imaginable: trophies, rings, girls, cars, money, fame, and even a big fish. The list is endless. It’s in my and your DNA! God created us to run a race. Hebrews 12, “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
Whatever the world declares is great, people line up to race or chase. Everyone looking for something that will love them back! Looking for something or someone that will not fail them or let them down. If we could only be like the person running ahead of us. It’s a downhill race, but no matter how great the effort you give or the pain your willing to endure you will never be able to catch who or what your chasing, because this hopeless race ends in the ultimate loss. It will sadly end one day at a lake of fire called hell. That certainly is not the picture the world painted you when you entered the race. No drunk, heroine, or porn addict ever planned on arriving at that finish line.
How did we join this race and how can we change races? To find the small path less taken. Let’s take a closer look at Hebrews!
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Changing races is a simple, but difficult choice. The simple part is that all you have to do is ask! Ask Jesus to forgive your sins and choose to focus your eyes on chasing Him! Oh the peace, joy, and promises that come with that decision! There will be some amazing days to come, you will absolutely shine because of Him! I wish i could tell you from then on the race is always easy. On the contrary. At times in this race, you will be persecuted, you will feel at times like you are running uphill with the wind pounding you. This race is a small path that at times seems lonely and takes you on the edge of cliffs or through dark valleys. Why in your right mind would you change paths to this race? Well, the good news is that this race has already been won for you. It is finished! You are just taking a victory lap chasing Jesus, the only true GOAT!
When you choose to chase Him, He sends the power that helped him win, the Holy Spirit, back to you so that you can endure any challenge or even any level of success on your journey! The rewards for choosing this race are unimaginable on Earth and and one day soon in Heaven.
You got this! Choose today. We all love when a crowd shows up to cheer us on. Jesus promises to never leave us. He assigns angels to our protection. Sends the Spirit to shine for Him in our weakness and oh can you see them now? That packed cloud of fans called witnesses cheering you on!
