YEAH IT IS
Preach the Gospel at all times, use words when necessary.
A quote credited long ago to Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, better known as Francis of Assisi. I find it ironic that a quote built on using few words is credited to a man with so many words in his name. Human nature causes me to desire to add a few more words myself to this quote. Something like “With all you have and with all your heart!” The truth is words can build up and break down, but there is nothing that compares to actions. Paul said it best:
1 Corinthians 9:16 – For you see, even though I proclaim the good news, I can’t take the credit for my labors, for I am compelled to fulfill my duty by completing this work. It would bring agony to me if I did not constantly preach the gospel.
Yeah It’s Time. Time to Preach with our actions.
I am going to borrow a powerful quote from the classic movie, Shawshank Redemption.
It comes down to a simple choice. Get busy living or get busy dying. (Andy Dufresne )
Unfairly placed in prison for life, Andy refused to let go of Hope. He shared that gift with his buddy Redd and saved his life. Most every great movie, such as Star Wars and Rocky, are all built around Hope.
If we want to live, I am talking thrive, then we must start doing more and saying less. Action brings Hope to life. Nothing drives me more crazy than meeting, just so we can say we had a meeting. Quote me on this one:
Wasting time is a good coach’s pet peeve.
One of my mentors, David Leatherberry once called me an apologetic. I was Gobsmacked by his accusation. I was under the impression that an apologetic was someone that knew a lot of big words and knew how to use them in such a way they could talk someone else under the table about what they felt was their accurate interpretation of the Gospel. I realize that definition does not accurately define apologetics, but like it or not David Leatherberry was correct when he looked me in the eye and said, “Donnie. You are an apologetic. The most powerful kind of apologetic. A LIVING APOLOGETIC!”
I fall short of that powerful compliment daily, but it has lit a fire under me to make David’s words the truth.
Let me define Gobsmacked, since I just learned that word this morning myself. It is something that leaves you utterly speechless, astonished or astounded, or so shocked you can’t speak. Something that I need to do more of. Less words and more love.
If less words is more, then let’s narrow it down to ONE.
Where do we place our Hope?
Whose Love Never Fails?
What’s His Name?
JESUS
