I heard one of the coolest thoughts today from Mark Driscoll about Kid Rock. “Has Kid Rock met Jesus, I don’t know. Could he? Sure, I mean Jesus could save anybody. He saved me. I wake up every day and look in the mirror and I’m shocked that this guy is on THE TEAM!”
There is so much in that short clip!
Like thinking we have a choice in who Jesus saves. Like thinking we deserve to be on The Team. Like wondering why are complaining instead of celebrating right now. Forget the Super Bowl parade, I can only imagine what Heaven looks like when a single sinner joins The Team!
More and more I cheer for professional players who are on The Team. I like the NBA Champion Oklahoma City Thunder, but I am talking about The Team, the Jesus Team! The Jesus Train is on the track and filling up daily!
Growing up I only heard of a few professionals that were outspoken about being on THE TEAM, like Pete Maravich did so boldly late in his life. As a kid in the 80’s, Sports Spectrum magazine helped give me a little insight on the Christian players and coaches.
These days, even with media trying to stop it, you can’t watch a single game without a host of players proclaiming they are on The Team! Maybe it is time we open our eyes and see and ears and hear the Revival that is going on in Sports, Music, and all around us.
Maybe we need to quit being bench warmers in church and go preach the gospel to the world like many of our teammates we are criticizing are doing!
I have a feeling Heaven is going to be nothing like it is here on earth!
