In the middle of taking notes for a student Bible Study in which I was preparing to lead, called Friday Fire, a word jumped off the pages of my Bible seemingly saying Google me!
It was a word from a verse my mother used to quote a lot when I was a kid. It just came to my spirit. A Royal Priesthood, a PECULIAR people, a chosen nation… I googled those words and the verse 1 Peter 2:9 was the location of the Gospel’s Good News.
1 Peter 2:9 KJV: “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light”.
Peculiar is not exactly a desired adjective someone throws at you these days. In our world it is most often translated as “weird”. Even though I have definitely been called “weird” or worse, I would prefer another adjective thrown my way. How about “different” or even better Peculiar!
When googling the meaning of the word “PECULIAR”, I found the word in Biblical text to mean the following, “God’s specially chosen, treasured, and private possession, set apart for His purpose, not necessarily odd”.
Its older meaning in the original Greek referred to something belonging uniquely to someone, emphasizing Christians as God’s own purchased property. Ownership paid for with a significant price I will add.
Oh, I am 100 percent down with that! Not only am I ok with being called PECULIAR, odd, weird, or different, I prefer it! I AM it!
I pray that God gives eyes to see or ears to hear to anyone looking or hearing anything about me or my team. I hope they see exactly what these warriors saw in Somalia on this day. Take a minute to watch this clip!
No doubt, they saw something PECULIAR! Something different, odd, fearless, dominating through the power and peace of the Holy Spirit!
The Uncommon Success I am looking for is not found in X and O’s or the brilliance of a human coach’s mind. It is found in the faith of a QB like Fernando Mendoza or Tim Tebow. It is found in a coach like Seattle Seahawks coach Mike MacDonald.
How about the Seahawks General Manager John Schneider, who has been with the team since 2010 and currently serves as President of Football Operations. In the Super Bowl parade, Schneider stole the show with a powerful gesture of faith. While players typically toss candy or gear to the crowd, Schneider was seen handing out small figurines of Jesus Christ to fans along the route. How cool is it that this bold public display is being hailed by many as a courageous act of witness in the public square!
If you are a called chosen son of the Most High God, then It is time to be the PECULIAR Son you were called to be!
