YOUR TOP 5
Everyone is caught up in making someone’s list, having the most likes, or getting the most shares. That is the popular thing to do, so you better hurry up and get on board the culture train before you miss out.
I have had multiple players make the ESPN Top 10 List, Brandon Cole, for making the most 3’s in College Basketball history, and the other, Caleb Gentry, for wrapping the ball around behind his back on a drive to the basket in the National Championship game. Both plays made a lot of alumni happy and were pretty cool, but the player who made that list who impressed me the most was a servant minded young man from Abaco, Bahamas. Our team was on a mission trip to his hurricane riddled island. Chauncey and his young wife brought us food and served our every need with such humility and joy the entire time we were on his island.
We played their top men’s team and Chauncey was an absolute warrior on the court. Even then he displayed an uncommon combination of grace and power. Quiet and meek in nature, I remember our team taking a picture with Chauncey after he drove us to the pier to get on the ferry boat to leave. I was thinking, I sure wish I could take Chauncey back to the USA to play for the Eagles, but that boat was not in God’s plan for Chauncey. He had a beautiful wife and a couple precious babies and was now coaching himself. I prayed asking God to bless Chauncey in a special way for everything he did for us.
The next day Chauncey’s Abaco team was traveling to Nassau to play in a NCAA Classic versus Duke. As we were checking into our hotel the next evening, our team was all standing in the lobby. ESPN was playing on the lobby TV. The Top 10 plays of the Day came on.
God smiled at the moment, as the number one play of the day came on, it was Chauncey catching a lob and dunking over one of Duke’s bigs. I smiled inside knowing that God had answered my prayer in a way that only God can. In a way that blows my mind over and over again.
Do you have a Top 5 list of Chauncey’s in your life? Special servant minded warriors who you can see vividly the reflection of Christ Jesus in. Not by their words, but by their actions. Meek and humble, but at the same time powerful and courageous, displaying joy in a way that moves you to your core.
Now that is a valuable list! Five people you can call at any time of the day or night. Warriors who don’t judge or beat you down with sarcasm, but instead offer a listening ear to let you bounce your thoughts off of. Godly men or women who you know will pray when you ask them to.
I have a suggestion, and I am including myself in this, maybe it is time you become someone that others can include on their Top 5 List. Now that would be a list worthy of making!
A list that could fairly be called a Jesus Top 5 List!
God help us to be men and women that long to be more like your Son Jesus. Our Savior, our Lord, our example. An example of love, forgiveness, grace, and so much more.
